2017 Success for Guernsey Boxing

09/02/18

The Guernsey boxing team, spearheaded by Elysium's Ben Duff, has had a very successful 2017, with a national champion, medallists at the Haringey cup and one of the team's boxers qualifying for the 2018 commonwealth games on the Gold Coast, Australia. This is the first time a boxer from Guernsey has qualified and Ben will be travelling to the Gold Coast in April as team manager/coach. As a result of the successes in 2017, Ben was shortlisted for two awards; Guernsey coach of the year; and Channel Islands coach of the year.

In addition to coaching the Guernsey senior team, Ben has been running boxing sessions for schools and the Guernsey youth commission. Recently, Ben ran an 8 week training programme for Les Voies School, which was aimed at building confidence and self-esteem for children with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. These sessions were a great success and the feedback received was very positive. Ben continues to help the youth commission with its Bounce project, which is aimed at encouraging young people to better manage their emotions by undertaking physical activities.
